Online learning is growing in higher education contexts around the world, but very few research‐based studies have addressed the cultural aspects of online teaching and learning. In this study, we focused on international students from Taiwan and examined their perspectives of taking a synchronous online course in the US. Specifically, we were interested in their adjustment from learning in a physical classroom to learning in a synchronous online environment, their opinions of synchronous online courses, their interactions in synchronous online courses, and what could be done to accommodate their needs in synchronous online courses. Results showed that although their learning behaviors did not change dramatically in the synchronous online course, the Taiwanese students prefer traditional face‐to‐face courses rather than synchronous online courses. The study also showed that the instructional design of the course interacts with cultural issues, and that the instructional design is more important than the technological aspects. Several recommendations to accommodate the needs of international students in synchronous courses were drawn from the findings. Expériences d'apprentissage en ligne: les points de vue des étudiants étrangers de Taiwan L'apprentissage en ligne se développe dans l'enseignement supérieur dans le monde entier mais très peu d'études fondées sur la recherche ont porté sur les aspects culturels de l'enseignement et de l'apprentissage en ligne. Nous avons fait porter cette étude sur des étudiants étrangers de Taiwan et examiné leurs points de vue par rapport au cours en ligne synchrone qu'ils suivaient aux Etats Unis. Ce qui nous intéressait plus particulièrement, c'était leur façon de s'adapter au passage d'un apprentissage dans une classe physique à l'apprentissage dans un environnement synchrone en ligne, leurs points de vue sur les cours synchrones en ligne, les interactions au sein des cours synchrones en ligne et ce qu'on pourrait faire pour répondre à leurs besoins au sein des cours synchrones en ligne. Les résultats recueillis ont montré que même si leurs conduites d'apprentissage ne changeaient pas de façon spectaculaire dans le cours synchrone en ligne, les étudiants de Taiwan préfèrent les cours traditionnels en face à face plutôt que les cours synchrones en ligne. Cette étude a aussi montré que la conception pédagogique du cours soulève des problèmes d'ordre culturel et que la conception pédagogique est plus importante que les aspects technologiques. Ces découvertes ont permis de formuler plusieurs recommandations pour répondre aux besoins des étudiants étrangers dans un cours synchrone. Synchrone Online‐Lernerfahrungen: Die Sichtweise internationaler Studenten aus Taiwan Online‐Lernen wächst in höheren Bildungskontexten rund um die Welt, trotzdem haben nur sehr wenige forschungsbasierte Studien die kulturellen Aspekte von Online‐Lehre und ‐Lernen angesprochen. In dieser Studie zielten wir auf internationale Studenten aus Taiwan und prüften ihre Perspektiven, einen synchronen Online‐Kurs in den Vereinigten Staaten zu belegen, Ausdrücklich waren wir an ihrer Anpassung von Lernen in einem physischen Klassenzimmer und an eine synchrone Online‐Umgebung, ihren Meinungen zu synchronen Online‐Kursen und ihren Interaktionen in synchronen Online‐Kursen interessiert. Auch ihren Bedarf in synchronen Online‐Kursen untergebracht zu werden, wollten wir kennen lernen. Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass, obwohl sich ihr Lernverhalten im synchronen Online‐Kurs nicht dramatisch änderte, die taiwanesischen Studenten traditionelle direkte (face‐to‐face) Kurse statt synchroner Online‐Kurse bevorzugen. Die Studie zeigte auch, dass der Unterrichtsentwurf des Kurses mit kulturellen Angelegenheiten interagiert und dass der Unterrichtsentwurf wichtiger als die technologischen Aspekte ist. Mehrere Empfehlungen, die Bedürfnisse internationaler Studenten in synchronen Kursen zu berücksichtigen, wurden auf Grundlage der Ergebnisse angefügt. Experiencias de aprendizaje síncrono en línea: los puntos de vista de los estudiantes extranjeros de Taiwan El aprendizaje en línea está creciendo en entornos de enseñanza superior en el mundo entero pero pocos estudios basados en investigación han hecho hincapié en los aspectos culturales de la enseñanza/aprendizaje en línea. Hemos puesto énfasis en los estudiantes extranjeros de Taiwan, examinando sus puntos de vista acerca del curso sincrónico en línea que estaban siguiendo en los Estados Unidos. Lo que nos interesaba más específicamente eran sus maneras de adaptarse al tránsito de un aprendizaje en aulas físicas al aprendizaje dentro de un entorno sincrónico en línea, las interacciones dentro de clases sincrónicas en línea y lo que se podría hacer para responder a sus necesidades propias dentro de los cursos sincrónicos en línea. Los resultados han mostrado que aunque sus conductas de aprendizaje no cambiaban de manera espectacular dentro de los cursos sincrónicos en línea, los estudiantes taiwaneses prefieren los cursos tradicionales presenciales a los cursos sincrónicos en línea. El presente estudio también enseñó que el diseño pedagógico del curso plantea problemas de carácter cultural y que el diseño pedagógico es más importante que los aspectos tecnológicos. Learning Analytics (LA) and adaptive learning are inextricably linked since they both foster technology-supported learner-centred education. This study identifies developments focusing on their interplay and emphasises insufficiently investigated directions which display a higher innovation potential. Twenty-one peer-reviewed studies are identified via a systematic review and classified based on the dimensions of a proposed framework. The findings of the review suggest that interesting work has been carried out during the last years on the topic. We conclude with a need for more research on the topic in specific learning domains and settings. Recommendations include: a clear strategy for adaptation augmented by LA, the combination of on-task with pre-task measures, and the combination of system-controlled adaptation with user-controlled adaptation. Future trends include the emergence of constructivist-collaborative environments that provide insightful models of complex student behaviour. 相似文献

The present study investigates and compares the influence of teaching Realistic Mathematics on the development of mathematical competence in kindergarten. The sample consisted of 231 Greek kindergarten students. For the implementation of the survey, we conducted an intervention, which included one experimental and one control group. Children in the experimental group were taught Realistic Mathematics according to the principles of Realistic Mathematics Education. The control group was taught mathematics following the basic pedagogical principles of curriculum for kindergarten students. In order to evaluate the mathematical performance of children we used the Test of Early Mathematics Ability (TEMA-3). The results showed that the teaching technique with the use of Realistic Mathematic Education contributed significantly to the development of mathematical competence of young children. Moreover, factors such as gender, age and nonverbal cognitive ability, did not seem to differentiate the development of mathematical competence of children. 相似文献

The present study aimed to assess the effect of two different types of digital technologies (computers and tablets) in early childhood students’ understanding of numbers. Three hundred and sixty-five children (mean age in months, M?=?62.0, SD?=?5.5) from 21 kindergarten classes were randomly assigned to two intervention groups and a business-as-usual control group. The interventions were conducted over 24 half-hour lessons. Data was collected during the 2013–2014 school year using a three-step research procedure. Students’ knowledge about numbers was assessed using the Test of Early Mathematics Ability-3 (TEMA-3). Findings were that (a) both experimental groups significantly outperformed the control group on the posttest, (b) the group that used tablet computers significantly outperformed the group that used personal computers on the posttest, and (c) there was no significant difference between genders on the posttest. Our findings support that computers and especially tablets, when combined with the use of developmentally appropriate software into the children’s daily routines, may provide a substantial contribution to early childhood students’ comprehension of numbers. 相似文献

there have been many education reforms regarding teachers’ training policy in recent years and the number of training programs
has been increased, they have not been able to satisfy teachers’ needs to a substantial degree. In this research the results
from an exploratory study conducted within the framework of a national training programme in Greece on ICT known as "In-service
teacher training in the use of ICT in Education" are presented. Based on a specially constructed questionnaire intended for
the educators, this research elicits teachers’ attitudes towards this programme. Some of the main results point out the preparedness
of these teachers to use ICT in the daily school practice. Furthermore, they expressed their wish for further in-training

Purpose: An advanced system for the assessment of climbing-specific performance was developed and used to: (a) investigate the effect of arm fixation (AF) on construct validity evidence and reliability of climbing-specific finger-strength measurement; (b) assess reliability of finger-strength and endurance measurements; and (c) evaluate the relationship between finger flexor all-out test scores and climbing ability. Methods: To determine the effect of AF, 22 male climbers performed 2 maximal strength and all-out tests with AF (shoulder and elbow flexed at 90°) and without AF (shoulder flexed at 180° and elbow fully extended). To determine reliability, 9 male climbers completed 2 maximal strength tests with and without AF and an all-out and intermittent test without AF. Results: The maximal strength test without AF more strongly determined climbing ability than the test with AF (r2 = .48 and r2 = .42 for sport climbing; r2 = .66 and r2 = .42 for bouldering, respectively). Force and time variables were highly reliable; the rate of force development and fatigue index had moderate and low reliability. The maximal strength test with AF provided slightly higher reliability than without AF (intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC] = 0.94, ICC = 0.88, respectively). However, smaller maximal forces were achieved during AF (484 ± 112 N) than without AF (546 ± 132 N). All-out test average force had sufficiently high reliability (ICC = 0.92) and a relationship to sport climbing (r2 = .42) and bouldering ability (r2 = .58). Conclusion: Finger strength and endurance measurements provided sufficient construct validity evidence and high reliability for time and force parameters. Arm fixation provides more reliable results; however, the position without AF is recommended as it is more related to climbing ability. 相似文献

Abstract The purpose of the present study was to establish the most appropriate allometric model to predict mean skiing speed during a double-poling roller skiing time-trial using scaling of upper-body power output. Forty-five Swedish junior cross-country skiers (27 men and 18 women) of national and international standard were examined. The skiers, who had a body mass (m) of 69.3 ± 8.0 kg (mean ± s), completed a 120-s double-poling test on a ski ergometer to determine their mean upper-body power output (W). Performance data were subsequently obtained from a 2-km time-trial, using the double-poling technique, to establish mean roller skiing speed. A proportional allometric model was used to predict skiing speed. The optimal model was found to be: Skiing speed = 1.057 · W 0.556 · m ?0.315, which explained 58.8% of the variance in mean skiing speed (P < 0.001). The 95% confidence intervals for the scaling factors ranged from 0.391 to 0.721 for W and from ?0.626 to ?0.004 for m. The results in this study suggest that allometric scaling of upper-body power output is preferable for the prediction of performance of junior cross-country skiers rather than absolute expression or simple ratio-standard scaling of upper-body power output. 相似文献

An online support distance-learning program in Mathematics was developed to aid first year engineering students for their transition from the secondary to the tertiary education in order to reinforce deficiencies they may have in mathematical knowledge. The aim of the present study is to examine, firstly, to what extent the attendance of such a program helped students to familiarize themselves with distance learning programs. In addition, the students’ satisfaction with the material of the program was examined as well as their attitudes towards a conventional support learning program in Mathematics. The structure and part of the material developed is presented in detail. The basic methodological tool was an appropriately structured questionnaire. The results indicate that students responded positively to the program, which was a basic way of acquainting themselves with distance learning, and were satisfied with the material. The students’ attitudes towards a conventional program was found to be related to their prior experience in distance learning programs. Statistical analysis of the research data yielded 4 basic factors related to the students’ beliefs regarding the support online learning program in Mathematics. These factors were student’s development and progress, satisfaction with the parts of the online support program, their attitudes towards a conventional program while being in the online support program and their familiarization with online distance education. These factors as well as the targeted identification of the students’ needs should be taken under consideration while designing and implementing support online distance learning programs in Mathematics. 相似文献

As the introduction of natural sciences in early childhood education differs from natural sciences for adults, planning appropriate activities for preschool is a delicate task with various dimensions and parameters. Teaching natural sciences in kindergarten can be a complex procedure which combines exploring and comprehending children’s perceptions, scientific content and the learning environment. Magnetism, which is very attractive subject for young children, is a commonly negotiated topic at the preschool level. In this paper, we present an empirical case study that examines whether the picture story reading method can be beneficial for young children learning about magnetism. Findings underline the importance of drawing on a variety of evidence in assessing young children’s understanding of magnets. 相似文献
